The Single Line Simulator SLS-1 combines a complete exchange line simulator and a versatile test unit. In simulator mode it provides the dc feeds, supervisory tones, and switching required to accurately simulate a normal PSTN line. In test mode it can measure dial parameters, inject white noise, apply an audio sweep generator, and measure the REN value. In addition to all this, the SLS-1 provides several different payphone signal tones, has a switchable artificial line, and provides an automatic call-party-clear k-break signal. This comprehensive specification makes for a complete and versatile unit that will find many uses, either in the lab, on the shop floor, or as a demonstration platform. Two ports provide both sides of an exchange environment. Going off-hook at one will present dial tone, dialling will ring the other port and present ring tone to the caller. When the other party answers the speech path is completed and traffic can begin. In the event that an off-hook port is dialled, either busy or unobtainable will be presented to the caller. When either party goes back on-hook, the other party will recieve a k-break clearing signal. Complete line status for both ports is indicated by LEDs, monitoring 'off-hook', 'line-sieze', and 'line-called'. Manual ringing of a port is achieved via a front panel pushbutton, and on ringing the REN value of the apparatus is displayed. |
